Box Break: WandaVision 2023 Blaster Box — Great Vibes, No Grails (But That’s OK)

We recently found a 2023 Upper Deck WandaVision Blaster Box for just $9.95 and it was impossible to pass up, especially since we hadn’t opened any box of this set before. We weren’t expecting autographs or ultra-rare hits since those are mostly found in hobby boxes, but we got something unexpected: a Film Cel insert!

Yep — tucked into the last pack we opened there was a beautiful “Film Cel” card from the 1950s episode era (Card #1950-5). So we were lucky enough to pull one in the only retail blaster box we opened. A nice surprise in an overall chill rip.

Set Overview: 2023 Upper Deck WandaVision Trading Cards

Upper Deck’s WandaVision set brings Marvel’s most stylistically daring show to life, recapping all episodes across a 90-card base set. Each card taps into the show’s genre-shifting aesthetic — from 1950s sitcom vibes to modern MCU intensity.

Key facts about the set:

  • Base Set: 90 cards covering the full series. Each card features full-bleed visuals and episode quotes.
  • Parallels:
    • Mind Stone Yellow – (1 per blaster box)
    • Purple Spell – (1:2 hobby, 1:2 e-Pack, 1:2 blaster)
    • Scarlet Red – (1:2 hobby, 1:2 e-Pack, 1:2 blaster)
    • Green Vision – /225 (hobby and e-Pack only)
    • White Vision – /99 (hobby and e-Pack only)
    • Black and White – /25 (hobby and e-Pack only)
    • Printing Plates – 1/1 (each has Black, Cyan, Magenta and Yellow versions)
  • Autographs & Inserts: There are multiple inserts, including film cels, plexiglass stock cards, holos and super exclusive autographs which can be pulled from the Hobby/e-Pack, but not from the retail blaster boxes

Inserts & Hits:

  • Film Cel Cards – acetate-style cards featuring screen-accurate frames
  • Plexiglass Cards – ultra-premium
  • Autographs – including Elizabeth Olsen and Paul Bettany. Dual Autographs are also available in: One Lifetime or Another (/15), Picturesque Signatures (/25 or /10), and Warped Reality Signatures (/25 or /10).
  • Sketch Cards – hand-drawn, 1-of-1 originals
  • S.P./Thematic Inserts – themed around sitcom tropes, the hex, and S.W.O.R.D. ops

Note: Most chase cards (autos, sketches, plexi, /99 and below) are found in hobby boxes or e-pack formats, not in blasters. However, we pulled a Cel Card from a blaster.

Inserts aside, we loved the main set and how many little details reference key moments and characters from the show — whether it’s a menacing glitch in the matrix or a charming sitcom setup gone weird.

Our Pulls (Blaster Box)

Even knowing retail boxes wouldn’t contain grails, the experience was still well worth it. Our hits:

  • 1x Film Cel Card (1950s-5) – a nice acetate insert from Wanda’s early sitcom era
  • 4x Mind Stone Yellow Parallel – included in every pack (except the one that had the film cel)
  • 2x Purple Spell Parallels – visually striking, nice variety
  • 2x Scarlet Red Parallels – using a “water-holo” style
  • 1x Suburban Synthezoid card (WS-5)
  • 2x We are an Unusual Couple cards (WV-9, WV-17)
  • 1x Welcome to Westview card (PR-6)
  • A satisfying mix of era aesthetics, color shifts, and storytelling callbacks

For about $10, this WandaVision blaster box was absolutely worth the rip. Even without autographs or ultra-rare inserts, the nostalgia, design, and attention to detail made the experience fun and fulfilling. If you’re a Marvel fan or just enjoy quirky, well-designed sets, this one’s a no-brainer — especially at retail prices.

P.S. Here is the checklist of the base set!
